Everyone sins, including the person writing this sentence as well as the person who is reading it now. However, redemption can dictate one’s destiny and free them of their sense of guilt after committing a sin, just like some of the characters in the novel “The Kite Runner”. In the novel, Amir, the son of a wealthy Afghan man, witnesses a horrendous act committed against his childhood friend Hassan and spends the next two decades trying to forget what he saw. One of the major themes in the novel is redemption. As Rahim Khan, Amir and Soraya commit sins and spend the rest of their lives finding a way to redeem their sins.

Amir goes on a journey to redeem his sin. In the novel, Hassan is Amir’s
close childhood friend and half-brother as well as a servant of Baba’s. Amir commits a terrible sin which makes him feel guilty and destroys his relationship with his best friend Hassan. Amir fails to protect Hassan when he was getting raped. Decades later, Amir receives a call from Rahim Khan asking him to visit him in Pakistan. Rahim Khan tells Amir that “There is a way to be good again” (pg239). Amir travels back to Afghanistan in a war zone, to save his nephew Sohrab. Not only Amir finds a way to be good but also a way to redeem himself from the sin he has committed against his brother and find peace in his heart. Amir strives to do better and do everything for his nephew that he failed to do for Hassan throughout his lifetime.
