In the past fifteen years America’s food issues have extremely worsened. The three main topics about food issues are Diabetes types 1-2, Hidden Calories, and Big Corporations. All these problems of the world are stated in an article written by Michael Pollan called “The Omnivores Dilemma for Kids”
According to the article written by Michael Pollan it says that Diabetes is one of the worst diseases that could happen to you. Many people get diabetes from corn because it’s almost in everything. When corn started to be in many unhealthy products, kids got diabetes. This all happened because of corn. Before corn’s “reign” across the world only adult would rarely get diabetes. Now it’s a common disease in the U.S.A.
In a section called hidden calories it confirms the things that corn is in that you would never expect. In my opinion I think the most shocking one is apples. How is corn in apples? The secret is that when you go to the supermarket, and see shiny apples that shiny stuff is corn. Some compnies have made gasoline out of corn. That’s insane!
Now for the question we’ve all been waiting for… (drum role please)… WHO IS MAKING THIS CORN?!? The answer to this question is huge terrible corporations that only care about money. One fact from the text was that 30% of America is taken up by corn fields and corporations. In the movie Food Inc. it said that the biggest companies of corn and meat products did not want to be interviewed during the film. This is because they would be guilty if the world saw this movie and stopped buying their unhealthy products.
In conclusion, these were the three most important things in Michael Pollan’s big argument. Many food companies are trying to resolve the issue with selling organics, and it is working. It will take the long time to stop corn from taking over the world
