INTRODUCTION
This assignment provides a clear understanding of the concept of green crime related to the ecological withdrawal along with its examples from the given textbook. Green harm damages the ecosystem, human and nonhuman species. Ecological withdrawal includes the extraction of raw materials from nature and to use them for the productive purpose. The discussion also addresses the green criminology of McMurray sand tar in the north of Alberta Canada which had removed as well as harming the natural environment.
DISCUSSION
ECOLOGICAL WITHDRAWAL
Ecological withdrawal is the process of extracting raw materials to create products which are necessary for the everyday life. A problem arises when the human exceeds nature’s ability to reproduce the materials, this brought extensive ecological problems.
It is pretty clear that ecological withdrawals are necessary for the humans in order to spend a luxurious life but an excessive withdrawal can create severe harmful effects on the environment. According to the research of Boekhout van Solinge, (2014) worldwide 900 humans were reported killed largely due to the deforestation of Amazon trees for the purpose of agriculture and production materials. Next, we provide the examples of ecological withdrawal.
EXAMPLES OF ECOLOGICAL WITHDRAWAL
Some common examples of ecological withdrawal include withdrawal of water, harvesting of trees in order to get natural resources, mining of minerals, metals, rocks, sand, extraction of gemstones for precious jewelry and other raw materials. The extraction or withdrawal specifically the tropical deforestation withdrawal is creating a serious impact upon the ecosystem and humans. The ecosystem is becoming unstable because they are consuming too much of the natural environment. Deforestation is impacting upon both human and nonhuman animals (Hillyard, ; Tombs, 2007).
ATHABASCA TAR SANDS ECONOMICAL WITHDRAWAL
Athabasca tar sand is largely the deposit of extremely heavy crude oil through extracting and refining a tar bearing sand. However, it is undeniable that so much sand tar extraction is harming the natural environment. On the other hand, the production of oil from sand tar consumes much water from the local ecosystem. The withdrawal of a large quantity of water for this process largely comes from the Athabasca River which significantly impacts the local waterways (Smandych, ; Keenan, 2010).
Sand tar extraction can lead to the excessive ecological destructions, for example, the oil leaks from the sand tar can also affect the local waterways and ponds. According to several studies extraction of oil from sand tar or oil sand development project in the region causes a large environmental harm for the species.
CONCLUSION
The discussion undergoes deep knowledge about the green criminology and ecological withdrawal of materials. These ecological withdrawals consist of a wide variety of resources from nature for example water, oil, food, clothing, and other raw materials. An additional problem that emerges is, an excessive ecological withdrawal is affecting the inhabitants, climate, ecosystem, humans, and nonhuman species. The assignment defines several examples of ecological withdrawal and its impact on the natural environment. Athabasca tar sands economical withdrawal a key cause of the global warming and environmental pollution.
