The literature review of this study addresses the effects of social media on students. This includes varied scopes to understand the effect of social media; both positive and negative and positive effect. In this chapter, varied definitions of possible effect of social media will be discussed. Ways and solutions are enumerated to asses the perceptions of students on what they must do to avoid this kind of addiction.

Social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram are all highly used in media platforms. The social media usage of the students has the potential affect on their grades, social skills, and time management skills ,but it could be positive and negative effect. Most of them updates their accounts or so mostly when bored. They are “interested” in what every on else is doing. They pay too much attention on their smart phones and consume their free time when they should be studying. It does negatively affect them because they could be spending time doing other things to improve their life and studies but they choose not to.
Although some students suffer from their social media usage, there is a handful that aren’t affected at all. In fact according to (Tara Heffner 2016) “social media can be beneficial to students and their success. Using of social media to cope with academic frustrations can be a good outlet. Especially if the student is connecting with other students that is having the same problem. Social media allows students to discuss class material via social media as well as help them network”. Students use social media to interact with others, to learn whats going on in the world, and even for educational purposes. Some of them never waste their time on their phone when they have more important things to do. Although social media is a huge distraction for students it also helps with their learnings. Social media opens a whole new technological world for students, however students chose to adapt to the new “world” is the ultimate of their academic success.

A family has, at most times, been seen as private territory. No matter what happened outside of it—for example, at work or elsewhere—a family, in principle, is where many people can share their problems, seek for solutions together, enjoy understanding and privacy. However, as technologies have become more and more advanced, this private, intimate space has shrunk. Mostly admitted they learned what their family members were doing by checking their statuses online, not by asking them personally—even though they might be sitting in the next room (Macleighob).
